ICC INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE

ICC (International Certificate of Competence)
Many countries require visiting yachtsmen to hold a certificate of competence. If you are planning to sail or cruise within Europe and the Mediterranean the RYA recommends skippers hold the International Certificate of Competence (ICC). This is particularly true in Croatia and now in parts of Greece as well as Turkey where laws have recently changed and skippers are required to hold a valid ICC (International Certificate of Competence) or RYA Day Skipper certificate or higher.   If you are planning a holiday in this region you should probably check requirements with your charterer or booking agent.

The ICC provides documentary assurance from one government to another that the holder meets an agreed level of competence. The ICC is a test of competence, it is not a qualification. If you have attended an RYA practical training course presenting your certificate with your ICC application form may be sufficient, otherwise you will need to take a practical test.

We run ICC assessment courses and provide additional tuition in both boat handling, and in navigation for those who have not undertaken the appropriate RYA courses.   Many inland sailors will have more than enough boatcraft to handle sea sailing with ease but will not have taken any navigation courses as the need has not arisen....we can help you with our integral Safety and Navigation tuition which you would need to undergo in order to get to the required ICC standard.
